I was able to see a special early screening of Disney’s The BFG this week with my family and we LOVED it! The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) has his own precious way of speaking and that made him even more special to us. BFG is very special. He hears all the secret whispers of the world.

Because I didn’t read the book prior to seeing the movie, everything for me was a pleasant surprise. So with that being said, I want you all to be surprised and I don’t want to say much. I will say my favorite scene visually was “Dream Country.” Where dreams begin…

“What I says and what I mean are sometimes different.” – BFG

As Disney always does, you will have some talking points after the movie other than just what is your favorite part. There is the subject of bullying in this movie. It is rather hard to swallow too. I wasn’t sure if my youngest got it either. He wasn’t laughing during the scene(s), like some of the other smaller children were during our screening, but I’m sure they just didn’t understand what was going on. I was looking over at our littles to watch their reaction and they were just watching. They didn’t mention anything about those scenes afterward so I brought it up.

Being different. It is okay to be different. In our household, being a little different is A-Okay with us – shine in your own differences. Go on at your own pace, we will join in with you.

Alright, remember how I told you that BFG talked in his own unique way? Well here’s his A Gobblefunk Glossary to help you along the way!

I left the film, wondering about my dreams. Not about what I would dream about tonight literally but bigger than that. What are my dreams? What are my family’s dreams?

What’s your dream, what’s your heart’s desire?

Can your little Wilderness Explorers see this movie?

I was a little apprehensive going into this film. I thought BFG looked a little dark. In fact, you might say, I went in thinking I was going to rate this at 3 balloons ( I know, I know, give a film by THE Steven Spielberg 3 balloons – blasphemy!) But that’s how I went into this movie. I was quickly softened. BFG is a gentle giant and the other Giants aren’t too scary. Yes, there are a couple scenes that my little jumped in. Both my kids had their ears covered in some scenes (that always helps calm their nerves), but all in all, they came out of the movie saying they loved it and they thought it was funny at parts. I don’t think it’s a movie for young explorers, say under 6 years. Ultimately, you are the parent and know your littles though.

 I give The BFG
