Marvel’s Doctor Strange is the newest movie in the Marvel universe to hit theaters. Even though I consider myself a big Marvel fan, (I mean who doesn’t love Thor, right?), I had never heard of Doctor Strange before seeing the promos months before. {insert wide eyes emoji face}

I know, I know, Marvel Fan fail on my part.

However, after seeing the trailer in the theater months ago, Doctor Strange had not left my thoughts. The preview was mind-blowing and thought provoking. I was left wondering: What was this mind-bending movie about? Whenever I thought about it, my head naturally quirked to the side too, as it did when watching this scene below.

Since I was able to see an early screening of Doctor Strange I can tell you more about this EPIC film. It is universal. And I really mean that. Doctor Strange will take you to places in the universe you have never been but also be prepared to have your mind journey to places beyond the realm. It’s kind of a trip.

“Elevate your mind”

“Time is relative.” – The Ancient One

Official Synopsis:

From Marvel Studios comes “Doctor Strange,” the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place—a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange—armed with newly acquired magical powers—is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.

With this thought, I want to introduce some new characters:

The Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton, is wise, a sage in fact, and holds the secrets of the Mystic Arts. No one really knows how old she really is, centuries old? But she is willing to teach Doctor Strange the new side to reality: the mystical way of magic!

Doctor Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch is witty, smart, and intriguing. He was once a celebrated but arrogant surgeon, until a tragic accident cost him his medical skills and career. Searching for a way to restore his talents, he traveled the world until he finally encountered The Ancient One, the enigmatic teacher who offered to teach him the ways of the Mystic Arts.

Dr. Christine Palmer, played by Rachel McAdams is a highly skilled trauma surgeon who works in the same hospital as Doctor Strange. You will learn more about their friendship in the movie.

Last but certainly not least, Doctor Strange’s Cape, yes folks, I’m highlighting his Cape. Or shall the Cape be named Cloak? What is more regal? Whatever the case, the Cape/ Cloak takes on such a sidekick/awesome sauce roll that will have the whole audience laughing and cheering for “it”. So well done Mr. (helpful) levitating Cape!

The costumes and hairstyles are impeccable in Doctor Strange. I can see Disneybounders going crazy with Doctor Stephen Strange’s outfit and Kaecilius’ intricate hair; I’m sure those with longer hairstyles (me being one) will want to try and copy it.

As you watch Doctor Strange, you will find yourself thinking outside the box and pushing your mind into places that you hadn’t dreamed of before. Let it. This movie is visually busy at times as it dimensionally morphs in ways that sometimes my eyes didn’t know where to look because it was such a large puzzle. But it was gorgeous. Those who are a bit obsessed with the galaxy are going to be in heaven with this movie. You will soar into new levels of wonder and imagination that will leave you thinking how deep is infinity?

“Surrender your eyes and power will rise.” – The Ancient One

Can your Wilderness Explorers see this movie?Russell

Not quite appropriate for young ones but yes for older kids that are used to the Avengers movies. My daughter will not be able to see this for a while even though she is a HUGE Marvel fan and has seen all the Avengers movies because I know her fears and the dark parts of this movie will get to her. But in time both kids will watch it.

Here’s another thing to think about if you or someone else you know can get over stimulated: While I found the puzzling, thought-provoking, visuals amazing, those who deal with sensory processing issues might find this to be too much at times.
