We screened the latest filmed from DisneyNature Penguins the other evening as a family. From the get-go, my nine year old son, was laughing at the main character, Steve, narrated by Ed Helms. I knew Disney had casted this well.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:

“Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Penguins” is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins hundreds of thousands of fellow males in the icy Antarctic Spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologecally threaten his happily ever after.”

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Expect to enjoy the glide and waddles of penguins, learn fun tidbits about penguins, laugh at Ed Helms “voicing” Steve, and finding yourself wanting to hug a penguin.

“I just got beat up by a baby, not good.” – Steve

WHAT I LOVED:

I loved that I learned so much about the Adélie penguin, for example: males grow to about 2 feet tall and weigh 5 lbs when they are ready to find a mate at about 5 years old.

I felt like this movie, like Disneynature films, are an extension of schoool, plus they give back! This is their 10 year Anniversary of creating these films. They started way back with Mya the monkey and Oscar the chimp, they helped us all make these real connections. When we watch these Disneynature films, proceeds benefit these animals.

“Penguins” continues Disneynature’s conservation tradition: for every ticket sold opening week (April 17-23, 2019), Disneynature will make a donation to the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN) to help protect penguins across the southern hemisphere.”

Watching the end credits is quite enjoyable, they show how they made the film – it’s  AMAZING!

CAN YOUR WILDERNESS EXPLORERS SEE THIS MOVIE?

You can definitely bring your little explorers to this movie and should. There are a couple tense scenes with some predators because well, circle of life, but, I recommend explaining that to them in advance but I don’t think there was anything too traumatic. I clenched my Mama heart a few times and my son was holding his, but we both made it through just fine! Enjoy it and soak in all the knowledge and the belly laughs!

SO, DID I GIVE 5 OUT OF 5 BALLOONS?

I gave this one 4 balloons. It was darling, funny, full of knowledge, and Ed Helms was the perfect fit for this film.

This movie is about stamina, staying positive, willpower, and Steve’s magic. What we ultimately saw and loved: Keep Moving Forward, little waddle by waddle!

Well done, Disneynature, and Happy Anniversary!
